GALEUX D'EYSINES
|
Family: SQUASH
Packet Content(approx.): 10
This stunning French heirloom squash with beautiful salmon-peach colored skin is traditionally used in France for soups and sauces, and when cooked, the sweet, orange flesh is said to be as smooth as velvet. The name, which describes the skin, translates as "embroidered with warts from Eysines". Interestingly, the silvery-salmon-pink skin develops peanut like nodes as the sugar content builds in the ripening process to allow instant choice whilst in storage. The bright orange flesh is sweet, firm, and without fibrous strings making it perfect for pies, steaming and baking.
Sowing advice: Very heavy feeders, they need soil heavily amended with manure, compost, or other source of lots of nutrients. Sow in place in full sun after last frost; or start a couple weeks earlier indoors, but never let squash transplants become root-bound, and do not disturb the roots in transplanting. Seed are sown up to one inch deep. Grow 4-5 feet apart
