"Blue Waxweed", "Bat Face", "Bunny-Ears". Impressive sprays of dark purple, orchid-like flowers open in progression along strong stems over a very long period from early summer, right into the frosts of autumn. Sticky hairs on the leaves (its botanical name is Cuphea viscosissima) can cause the individual plants to stick together making the entire clump resemble one enormous flowering plant.
Sowing advice: Sow seeds in early spring in gentle heat. Grow on seedlings in individual 3" pots and plant out after risk of frost about 18" apart.
