Description
This very rare new introduction is native to the mountain meadows and woods in western China. It has short racemes of white starry flowers that appear pretty constantly all summer from May onwards, and undeniably handsome and extremely ornamental, evergreen, shiny, heart-shaped foliage turning to reddish shades in winter and spring. It is easily cultivated in any humus rich, preferably slightly moist soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. This lovely plant will certainly challenge the ability of any discerning plants person to identify it!
Sowing Advice
Sow seeds IMMEDIATELY you receive them, at any time of the year, they depend on having several months in cold, damp compost, (NOT DRY IN A FRIDGE) before they will germinate. Keep the seed tray moist in a cold greenhouse or shady corner. These fresh seeds can be very slow to germinate. Do not use any artificial heat in an attempt to germinate them as it may cause them to enter even deeper dormancy.
