HIPPEASTRUM HYBRIDS MIXED
Native to middle and south America, these fabulous plants show off the most magnificent, spectacular, enormous trumpet-shaped blooms, which are a must in every garden in warmer climes, but otherwise provide a beautiful show when in a pot in the home. This wonderful selection of colours range from reds, purples and pinks to bi-colours, and are sure to delight every gardener. In areas such as northern Europe, they make beautiful flowers in winter, when they are easily forced into spectacular blooms. In a matter of weeks a dry fleshy bulb will become a lovely centerpiece to brighten gloomy winter days and if potted on they become bigger and bigger clumps over the years! In warmer countries they are best planted among shrubs or under high shade of pine trees.
Seeds may be sown at any time of the year onto a well-drained compost and covered very thinly indeed with compost or grit, leaving some of the seed showing as light may aid germination. Keep the pot moist at a temperature of between 18 and 22 degrees C in a well-lit position. Seeds should germinate within 2 to 6 weeks but may take longer. Pot on into small pots before finally planting into a large pot, or outside in warmer countries.
