Exquisitely-shaped, brilliant crimson-red flowers with a bunch of golden stamens in the throat, open on thick strong stems, above clumps of strap-shaped, mid-green leaves. Flowering in late spring or early summer; established clumps may bloom again later in the summer. This rare and gorgeous native of Mexico and Guatemala grows best in partial sun and abundant moisture. The bulbs bloom best when crowded, and to this end container culture can be ideal, except in hot countries where they can be grown outside. (Packet of seeds not bulbs)
For best results, sow seeds in good light at any time onto a good soil-based compost. Cover the seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. We recommend germinating at 15 to 20 degrees C. Seeds should ideally germinate in between 2 and 6 weeks although they make take considerably longer. Pot on seedlings before finally planting out into a container or a well-drained spot.
