Acacia Catechu

Formerly known as Acacia catechu, Senegalia catechu is a thorny deciduous tree of the Indian subcontinent and neighbouring parts of Asia. Fine, feathery foliage and pale yellow flower spikes give it a light appearance, followed by flat brown seed pods. The dark heartwood yields cutch and katha, long used as natural dyes, tanning materials and in traditional preparations. Its rugged trunk, forked habit and ability to thrive on dry, stony ground make it an imposing specimen for a warm conservatory or frost-free garden.
