Rising in elegant dark wands from a deep green (often dusky) clump, bugbane saves its show for the season’s quiet turn—when borders are softening and the light is low. The tall, slender stems carry long bottlebrushes of pearly white flowers that open in sequence and release a sweet, evening fragrance, drawing bees on warm days and giving the garden a last, luminous lift.
