Allium Flavum Var. Minus

This dwarf form of yellow allium produces airy umbels of glistening, nodding lemon-yellow bells, each animated by long protruding stamens. The flowers hover above narrow blue-green leaves on stems short enough for troughs, rock gardens and the front of sunny borders. Its open, firework-like heads are less formal than the familiar purple globes and bring a bright, sparkling note to early summer planting. Native forms of Allium flavum grow on dry, rocky ground in southern Europe, so this compact variety excels in lean soil, full sun and sharp drainage, where it may gently self-seed.
