Allium Karataviense Subsp Henrikii

This distinctive form of Turkestan onion combines a low flower stem with broad, fleshy leaves that spread close to the ground and may carry strong grey-green, bronze or purple tones. A dense globe of pale pink to mauve starry flowers sits just above the foliage, making the entire plant appear sculpted rather than simply stemmed. The leaves remain a major part of the display, unlike those of many taller alliums that fade before flowering. Originating from dry Central Asian country, it is an exceptional gravel-garden or trough subject, needing full sun, lean soil and protection from winter wet.
