Allium Saxatile

Allium saxatile is a rock-dwelling Eurasian onion whose name literally refers to its preference for stony ground. Slender blue-green leaves form a neat clump beneath rounded umbels of clear yellow, starry flowers, creating a bright alpine display from late spring into summer. Naturally found in rocky meadows, mountain grassland and open slopes from eastern Europe towards the Caucasus and Siberia, it is built for cold winters and lean soils. The compact habit, cheerful colour and nectar-rich blooms make it ideal for a sunny rock garden, raised bed or trough with excellent drainage.
