Anemone palmata is a distinctive Mediterranean windflower with rounded, palmately lobed leaves and large, shining yellow flowers that open in spring. Unlike the more familiar woodland anemones, it has a warm, almost buttercup-like colour and a compact habit suited to sunny rock gardens and alpine pots. Some forms produce silvery white flowers, but the golden type is especially striking against the dark green foliage. Native to dry open ground in the western Mediterranean, it grows during the cooler, moister part of the year and rests through summer, requiring sharp drainage and protection from excessive winter rain in colder gardens.
