Anemone Vitifolia

The grapeleaf anemone is a tall, graceful Himalayan woodland perennial with toothed leaves divided into three broad lobes, giving them a resemblance to vine foliage. Branching stems carry large, single pale pink flowers in summer, each with a darker reverse and a prominent golden centre. The open blooms rise lightly through neighbouring plants and provide valuable late colour in a cool border. Now also known as Eriocapitella vitifolia, it is one of the parents behind several Japanese anemone hybrids. It performs best in dappled shade and rich soil that remains evenly moist without becoming stagnant.
