Armeria Maritima Subsp. Elongata

Armeria maritima subsp. elongata is a taller, more open form of thrift associated with inland sandy grasslands, dunes and dry heaths across parts of Europe. Evergreen tufts of narrow leaves send up elongated stems carrying rounded heads of pale to medium pink flowers, giving the plant a lighter and more meadow-like appearance than compact coastal cultivars. It works beautifully through gravel, at the front of naturalistic borders or among low grasses. Hardy, drought tolerant and attractive to pollinators, it performs best in full sun and lean soil, where the long stems remain sturdy rather than lush.
