Barbarea Vulgaris Variegata

Variegated wintercress is a decorative form of Barbarea vulgaris, producing rosettes of glossy, lobed leaves splashed and edged in creamy white, pale yellow and green. The foliage is brightest in cool weather and gives useful winter and early-spring colour before upright stems of clear yellow flowers appear. Often grown under old names such as winter cream, it combines the resilience of a native-style cress with the appearance of a small ornamental foliage plant. It suits informal borders, containers and damp garden edges, although flowering stems should be removed if abundant self-seeding is not desired.
