Bellevalia cyanopoda is a compact Iranian bulb notable for its softly coloured spring flowers and conspicuous bluish pedicels, the “blue feet” reflected in its botanical name. Short racemes may carry bells in varying shades of pale blue, lilac, pinkish white or cream above a neat tuft of strap-shaped leaves. The muted palette is refined rather than showy, making the plant ideal for an alpine pot or sunny trough where each flower can be viewed closely. Naturally adapted to cold mountain winters and dry summers, it is hardy when dormant but benefits from shelter against late frost while the flowers are open.
