Berkheya Radula

Berkheya radula is a distinctive South African perennial forming a substantial rosette of leathery, deeply toothed leaves with a rough, rasp-like texture. Upright stems rise above the foliage carrying clear yellow, thistle-like daisy flowers from midsummer into autumn. The bright heads attract pollinating insects, while the strongly textured foliage gives the plant architectural value before flowering begins. Naturally tolerant of nutrient-poor and mineral-rich ground, it suits a sunny gravel border or dry naturalistic planting where the roots receive excellent drainage.
