Buddleja Globosa

The orange ball tree is an impressive Andean shrub with long, deeply veined dark green leaves and loose terminal clusters of perfectly rounded orange-yellow flower heads. Each fragrant globe is composed of numerous tiny tubular blooms and attracts butterflies, bees and other insects in early summer. Native to Chile, Peru and Argentina, Buddleja globosa develops into a substantial semi-evergreen or deciduous specimen with a broad, informal outline. Unlike many familiar buddlejas, it flowers on older wood and should be pruned lightly after flowering rather than cut hard in spring.
