Calceolaria Corymbosa Subsp. Montana

This mountain form of Calceolaria corymbosa is a rare Chilean Andean perennial with a basal rosette of textured, softly hairy leaves. Slender stems carry structured clusters of golden-yellow slipper flowers, each formed by a greatly inflated lower lip often marked with fine reddish or brown spotting. The distinctive pouch is part of a specialised pollination system and gives the plant its familiar pocketbook-flower appearance. Adapted to cool, exposed high-altitude habitats, it is a choice collector’s subject for a shaded alpine house or sheltered trough with steady moisture and excellent drainage.
