Calochortus Albus Var. Rubellus

This rose-tinted form of Calochortus albus produces enchanting nodding flowers shaped like miniature paper lanterns, suspended from slender branching stems above narrow basal leaves. The rounded bells range from creamy pink to deeper rose and often carry delicate hairs and subtle markings inside. Native to open woodland and chaparral in California, the species is commonly known as the white fairy lantern or globe lily. It requires cool, moist winter and spring growth followed by a dry summer rest, making it an especially rewarding subject for a bulb frame or sheltered woodland pot.
