Calydorea Amabilis

Calydorea amabilis is a delicate South American bulb with narrow, grass-like leaves and exquisitely simple flowers in clear sky blue to violet. Each bloom lasts for only a single day, but established plants produce successive buds over an extended season, creating a repeated display after moisture or rainfall. Native to wet grasslands and stream margins from southern Brazil to north-eastern Argentina, it is surprisingly adaptable in cultivation. Its precise six-petalled flowers and compact habit make it a charming pot subject for a frost-free greenhouse, where spent blooms can be removed to encourage further flowering.
