Campanula hofmannii is a graceful Balkan bellflower that usually forms a leafy rosette in its first year before producing branching stems covered with nodding, creamy white bells in the next. The flowers hang in generous clusters and bring a fresh, luminous quality to shaded borders from early to late summer. Although often monocarpic, the plant self-sows readily in suitable ground, creating a naturally renewing colony without becoming coarse or heavy. It is especially effective beneath open shrubs, along woodland paths or in cool gravel where the soil drains freely and the seedlings can find their own positions.
