Cardamine Macrophylla

Cardamine macrophylla is a robust Asian woodland perennial with tall stems and large pinnate leaves composed of sharply toothed, pointed leaflets. Dense terminal clusters of pale pink to purple, four-petalled flowers rise above the foliage in early summer, creating a vivid display in cool shade. Creeping rhizomes gradually form a substantial colony, making it useful as bold ground cover beside streams, ponds or damp woodland paths. Native across a vast area from the Himalayas through China and Russia to Japan, it is exceptionally hardy but performs best where deep soil remains humus-rich and moist.
