Scott’s clematis is an unusual herbaceous species from the western and central United States, forming a compact clump rather than a climbing vine. Hairy stems and finely divided, fern-like leaves support nodding urn-shaped flowers in deep silvery violet-blue, occasionally shading towards pink or white. The thick sepals curl slightly at their tips, giving every bell a sculpted appearance. After flowering, silky plumed seed heads create a second striking display. Hardy, drought tolerant and distinctive, it is ideal for a sunny prairie border or rock garden.
