Colchicum Lingulatum

Colchicum lingulatum is a delicate autumn species from Greece and north-western Turkey, producing one to three pale or deep purple-pink flowers with narrow, widely spaced petals and conspicuous yellow stamens. The open, starrier outline differs from the broad goblets of many garden colchicums and makes the plant especially attractive at close range. Strap-shaped leaves expand after flowering or in the following spring, then retreat before summer. Naturally found in limestone scrub and open Mediterranean ground, it performs best in a sunny pot or rock garden with sharp drainage and a dry rest.
