Commelina Tuberosa

Commelina tuberosa is a vivid Mexican dayflower with upright stems and repeated bursts of intense cobalt-blue blooms, each formed from two broad upper petals and a much smaller lower one around bright yellow stamens. Every flower is short lived, often closing by afternoon, yet fresh buds continue opening from summer into autumn. Fleshy tuberous roots allow the plant to survive seasonal drought and return in mild climates. Its brilliant colour and relaxed habit suit sunny borders, containers and exotic planting, where it mingles easily with grasses and warm-toned annuals.
