Cosmos sulphureus ‘Mandarin’ produces a continuous run of vivid orange flowers, their warm, citrus-toned colour standing out clearly against fine, fern-like foliage. The blooms are carried freely on slender stems, creating a lively, sunlit effect that remains consistent through the height of summer. Derived from Cosmos sulphureus, a species native to Mexico and Central America, this strain retains the heat tolerance and resilience of the wild plant while intensifying the flower colour. Plants branch naturally and flower in quick succession from midsummer into autumn. Seed-raised plants show slight variation in shade, ranging from bright orange to deeper tangerine tones. Growth is upright and open, with flowering strongest in full sun on well-drained soil. The plant maintains its form and floriferous habit even in warm, dry conditions, producing colour with little interruption.
