Crocus Adanensis

Crocus adanensis is a rare spring crocus from a small area of the eastern Taurus Mountains in southern Turkey. Pale to deep lilac-blue flowers open above narrow leaves, each bloom showing a white zone above the yellow throat, silvery or buff outer petals and a vivid orange-red divided style. Subtle speckling near the base adds further detail. In the wild it grows in open oak woodland, scrub and maquis at moderate elevation. Its scarcity and refined colouring make it a choice alpine-house subject, requiring cool winter growth, excellent drainage and a warm dry summer rest.
