Nootka cypress, now often known as Callitropsis nootkatensis, is a magnificent evergreen conifer native to the cool, wet forests of the Pacific coast of North America. Its sweeping branches carry flattened sprays of dark green, aromatic foliage, often with gracefully drooping tips, while mature trees develop deeply furrowed grey-brown bark. The strong, fragrant and exceptionally durable timber has long been valued for carving, boats and outdoor construction. Slow growing but remarkably long lived, it becomes a distinguished specimen for a spacious, moist garden.
