Dianthus Oschtenicus

Dianthus oschtenicus is a rare Caucasian alpine named for Mount Oshten in the western Caucasus. It forms a tight, low cushion of narrow grey-green leaves, above which short stems carry delicate pink flowers with finely toothed or fringed petal edges. The neat proportions and concentrated summer display make it particularly suitable for a trough, alpine house or narrow rock crevice. Adapted to exposed limestone slopes and severe mountain winters, it tolerates cold far better than stagnant moisture. Lean mineral soil, abundant light and free movement of air are essential for maintaining its natural compact form.
