This attractive, quite scarce and sometimes variable plant, has very fragrant, deep or pale pink flowers. It is found heights at heights of up to 6,000 metres in the Cevennes, northern Pyrenees, Jura, and the Apennines, where it flowers from June to early September. For keen lepidopterists, it is pollinated primarily by moths of the genus Hadena which lay their eggs in the buds!
