Tall stems bear rings of pendulous-lipped, golden-throated, creamy-white, striped and speckled flowers above compact rosettes of slender green foliage. A long-lived hardy perennial, an established clump of these is most attractive to bees and butterflies.
Native to western Asia, particularly Turkey, this species grows on open slopes and rocky ground, adapting well to garden conditions with good drainage. Plants form basal rosettes of soft green leaves in their first year, followed by upright flowering stems in the second. The flowers are rich in nectar and highly attractive to bees, extending foxglove interest into early and mid-summer.
Best grown in full sun or light shade and well-drained soil, Digitalis lamarckii is suitable for borders, gravel gardens and naturalistic planting schemes. Like many foxgloves, it will self-seed lightly in favourable conditions.
