ViewEchium angustifolium is a narrow-leaved Mediterranean viper's bugloss forming a low, woody-based mound of bristly evergreen foliage. Branching stems carry repeated curls of tubular flowers, often opening rose-red or purplish before ageing towards violet-blue, so several shades may be present together. The nectar-rich blooms are exceptionally attractive to bees and continue for a long season in warmth. Adapted to dry coastal ground and rocky slopes, it is an excellent plant for a sunny wall, gravel garden or large container in a mild district, where shelter and sharp drainage are essential.
