Fritillaria Grayana

Gray’s fritillary is a rare northern Californian chocolate lily, often treated within Fritillaria biflora as var. ineziana or linked with the name F. roderickii. Short spring stems carry nodding bells in chocolate brown to purplish tones, with yellow-green markings clearest when viewed from beneath. Its natural range is exceptionally restricted to coastal prairie, bluff scrub and nearby grassland. Cultivated seed is valuable for conservation-minded collections, provided plants remain accurately labelled and no material is taken from the wild.
