Fritillaria Imperialis 'William Rex'

‘William Rex’ is a dramatic crown imperial with dark bronze stems and a terminal ring of nodding bells in intense reddish orange to bronze-red. A leafy crown sits above the flowers like a miniature imperial coronet, while whorls of lance-shaped foliage clothe the sturdy stem below. The cultivar is also associated with the name ‘Darkest of All’ and gives a richer, moodier effect than typical orange forms. Flowering in spring, it makes a commanding border feature and has the characteristic musky scent of crown imperials. Deep planting and summer drainage encourage lasting clumps.
