‘Humifusa’ is a low, spreading form of dyer’s greenweed, creating a compact mound of fine green stems and narrow leaves. In early and midsummer it becomes studded with bright yellow pea flowers, bringing a warm glow to banks, gravel gardens and the front of sunny borders. The species has a long European history as a source of yellow dye, used alone or with woad to produce greens. This prostrate selection retains that cultural interest in a garden-sized plant and is valuable to bees. Drought tolerant once established, it performs best in lean soil and full sun.
