Gentiana Punctata

Spotted gentian is a substantial European mountain perennial with upright stems, paired leaves and clusters of broad tubular flowers in pale yellow to greenish cream. Each corolla is densely freckled and streaked with purple-brown, producing intricate patterning unlike the solid blue associated with most gentians. It grows naturally in alpine meadows and among mountain scrub, flowering in summer above a slowly expanding crown. Bold enough for a border yet botanically distinctive, it thrives in cool, humus-rich soil with reliable moisture and combines beautifully with grasses.
