Geranium Gymnocaulon

Geranium gymnocaulon is a handsome Caucasian cranesbill with a dense clump of deeply divided foliage and upright stems carrying broad violet-blue to purple flowers. Dark veins and a pale eye give the rounded petals clear definition, while the open blooms are readily visited by bees. Native to mountain meadows and open woodland in the Caucasus, it combines good hardiness with a refined species character and works well in cottage borders, naturalistic planting or beneath open shrubs. Cutting back after the first display encourages fresh foliage and may extend the flowering season.
