Iris Bicapitata

Iris bicapitata is a rare bearded iris confined to the Gargano Peninsula of southern Italy. Its name means two-headed, referring to the pair of fragrant flowers usually carried on each compact stem. Colour is remarkably variable, ranging from yellow and white through lilac, blue and deep violet, sometimes in striking bicoloured combinations, with blue or white beards tipped yellow. Naturally found on sunny limestone slopes and open scrub, it is an exceptional collector’s iris for a warm rock garden or bulb frame with sharp drainage and a dry summer rest.
