‘Helen Astor’ is a historic Siberian iris introduced in 1938, producing upright stems of rosy magenta to wine-red flowers above a dense clump of narrow grassy leaves. Broad standards and falls surround a veined white signal with a small yellow throat, creating a colour rarely seen among older Siberian cultivars. Awarded honours in the early 1940s, it remains valued for its distinctive tone and graceful border habit. Seedlings will vary from the parent, but may yield attractive descendants in red, plum, pink and related shades.
