Iris Prismatica

The slender blue flag is a graceful North American wetland iris with fine grass-like leaves and airy violet-blue flowers. Narrow falls carry a clear white throat, while the upright standards give the bloom a light, almost orchid-like outline. It spreads slowly by slender rhizomes to form refined clumps in bogs, salt marshes and damp coastal ground. The species name prismatica refers to the sharply angled seed capsule. Hardy and elegant, it is excellent beside ponds or streams, where constant moisture and open light encourage the best flowering.
