Lathyrus polyphyllus is a perennial western North American peavine with leafy scrambling stems and clusters of pink to purplish pea flowers. Numerous paired leaflets give the foliage a full, feathery appearance, reflected in the name polyphyllus, meaning many-leaved. It grows naturally in open woodland, meadows and forest margins from British Columbia southwards, climbing lightly through neighbouring vegetation rather than forming a dense wall. Hardy and attractive to pollinators, it is a useful species for informal borders and naturalistic planting with modest support.
