Lathyrus Sativus Azureus

‘Azureus’ is a brilliant blue form of the grass pea, producing slender scrambling stems and clear cobalt to sky-blue flowers above paired leaves and winged shoots. The intense colour is unusual among annual peas and makes it an attractive climber for cottage borders, low supports and cutting gardens. Lathyrus sativus is an ancient drought-resistant crop that has sustained communities during famine, but prolonged consumption of the seed can cause the neurological disease lathyrism. This selection should therefore be grown strictly as an ornamental and its pods must not be eaten.
