Siberian motherwort, now accepted as Paraleonurus sibiricus, is an annual or biennial with tall branching stems, finely divided foliage and whorls of small pink to purple, two-lipped flowers. The open habit gives it a light, airy appearance in summer borders, and the nectar-rich blooms are visited by bees. Native from southern Siberia to northern China, it has also become naturalised in warmer regions worldwide. Although associated with traditional herbal use, it is best grown as an ornamental wildlife plant and allowed to self-seed only where a continuing colony is wanted.
