Leopoldia Tenuiflora

Leopoldia tenuiflora is a slender Eurasian tassel hyacinth with narrow leaves and elongated spring spikes. The fertile lower flowers are small, tubular and brownish or olive-purple, while a looser tuft of violet sterile flowers crowns the stem and provides the characteristic tassel effect. More delicate than Leopoldia comosa, it brings fine vertical detail to steppe planting, gravel gardens and specialist bulb collections. Native from central and eastern Europe into western Asia, it thrives in sunny, lean ground with cool winter growth followed by a warm, dry summer rest.
