Liatris Spicata Kobold Strain

The Kobold strain of Liatris spicata produces compact clumps of narrow, grass-like leaves and strong upright spikes densely packed with deep purple, button-like flowers. Unusually, the blooms open from the top of the spike downwards, creating a steadily lengthening brush of colour in late summer. Bees and butterflies gather on the nectar-rich heads, while the sturdy stems are excellent for cutting. Shorter than the typical species, these seed-raised plants fit easily into prairie schemes, sunny borders and containers, provided winter drainage is good.
