Libertia Sessiliflora

Libertia sessiliflora is an uncommon Chilean iris relative forming evergreen fans of stiff, sword-shaped leaves. Dense upright spikes carry small pale china-blue to almost white flowers in late spring and early summer, followed by oblong capsules filled with dark seed. The flowers sit close to the stem rather than on long branches, giving the plant a clean architectural outline. Native to moist ravines and woodland margins in central and southern Chile, it prefers a warm sheltered site with reliable moisture, good drainage and protection from severe winter cold.
