Lilium Canadense Var. Coccineum

This red-flowered form of the Canada lily carries elegant nodding Turk's-cap blooms in scarlet to deep red, usually marked with darker spots and a warm yellow or orange throat. Tall slender stems rise through whorls of narrow leaves, giving the plant a graceful meadow outline rather than the weight of a hybrid lily. Native Lilium canadense grows in moist meadows, stream margins and open woodland across eastern North America and is visited by butterflies and hummingbirds. It is most successful in deep, cool soil that remains evenly moist without becoming stagnant.
