Lilium cernuum is a delicate north-east Asian lily with slender stems and small, fragrant Turk's-cap flowers in soft rose pink to lilac. The recurved tepals are finely spotted towards the base and surround prominent orange-brown anthers, while narrow leaves preserve the plant's airy mountain-meadow character. Native to Korea, Manchuria and the Russian Far East, it is compact compared with many lilies and has contributed useful colour and refinement to Asiatic breeding. It performs best in cool-summer gardens with humus-rich drainage and shelter from hot afternoon sun.
