Lilium kesselringianum is a stately Caucasian mountain lily with tall leafy stems and loose racemes of fragrant, nodding Turk's-cap flowers. The strongly recurved tepals are lemon to rich golden yellow, sometimes carrying sparse reddish spotting near the base, and surround long orange-brown anthers. Named for botanist Friedrich Kesselring, it grows naturally in moist subalpine meadows and forest margins from Georgia and Armenia into north-eastern Turkey. Cool summers, humus-rich loam and steady spring moisture allow this uncommon species to develop its finest form.
