The Benguet or Philippine lily is one of the southernmost true lilies in the world, confined to cool mountain slopes on Luzon. Slender stems carry one to three large, intensely fragrant white trumpets, sometimes flushed violet or red near the base, above narrow linear leaves. Its presence in the northern Philippines represents an isolated tropical extension of the East Asian trumpet-lily lineage. Endangered by habitat loss and collection, it is a plant of considerable conservation value. Successful cultivation requires bright light, humid air, cool nights and complete protection from frost.
